Smalley's Spirolox Retaining Rings serve as a removable shoulder that helps secure components in an assembly while also creating a pleasant aesthetic look. The rings are edgewound to any custom diameter. This provides a huge advantage over die-stamped components and components coiled from rectangular cross-section material for maximum cost efficiency and scrap minimizing.

What makes the Spirolox Retaining Rings so convenient to install and remove is that the process doesn’t generally require special tools. Additionally, the design was created without protruding ears that interfere with mating components.

We also offer multiple product types that fit within your desired assembly, each with a preferred installation type, including:

o Manual installation – Installing the rings by hand provides greater axial flexibility and—after proper training—is the easiest and quickest installation method.

o Automated (internal) – We can also create Spirolox rings for use within automated and semi-automated assemblies. For internal use, a bore guides the ring while the plunger pushes the component into position.

o Automated (external) – For external assemblies the plunger pushes the ring over a tapered plug until it is securely into place.

o Multiple groove – A thin wall sleeve acts as a guide for the plug.

o Self-locking – The rings are wound into a groove and secured into place with a slight strike.

Spirolox rings also include notches that allow for screwdriver removal or a special China Wave Spring Retaining Ring(R) Removal Tool where the assembly requires it.
